The Ulmia companie is a firm
with a long tradition

 

1839: The swiss textile industrialist Erpf founds a
"bleaching and finishing plant" in the old
buildings that once belonged to the Weissenau
monastery.
1851: The state Württemberg acquires the business,
renaming its as the "royal singeing, bleaching
and finishing plant"
1868: Grounding of the family-run Steiger & Deschler
weaving mill
1888: The business in Weissenau is leased to Steiger &
Deschler, Ulm (Danube) and renamed as the
"Weissenau bleaching dyeing and finishing plant".
1907: Steiger & Deschler & Cie. markedly expands by
uniting with the weaving mill Weberei Steiger &
Söhne OHG in Krumbach.
1926: The importance of chemical fibres is recognised
already by the firm; the prozessing and finishing
of rayon begins.
1941: The Steiger&Deschler GmbH aquires the Weissenau
bleaching, dyeing and finishing plant.

 

 

1951: Steiger & Deschler GmbH using the "ulmia" name, is
one of the first German firms to process perlon
for women's fashion und underwear. Weissenau
begins with the finishing of synthetics.
1989: Ulmia Steiger & Deschler is acquired by Miroglio Tessile,
one of the leading textile concerns based in Alba, Italy.
An important investment programm starts, modernising the
Weissenau and Krumbach plants, and reducing production
in Ulm.

 

 

1996: The concern completes the gradual removal of
its entire facility to Weissenau, and becomes
Ulmia Stoffe GmbH.
1997: Certificate to ISO-9001
Today: We are continuing our investment in new
technology to ensure increasing quality
and faster turnaround times. Our aim is
to consolidate our position as one of the
prime textile finisher, not only in Germany,
but internationally.
